Duterte moves against media just as Marcos did 37 years ago

We Stand with ABS-CBN and its Workers: Filipino Americans led by the San Francisco-based Filipino Americans Human Rights Alliance (FAHRA) kicked off their campaign to commemorate the People Power Revolution by rallying at the Philippine Consulate on Tuesday, February 25. Protests are planned for other Philippine consulates abroad as President Duterte moves to close ABS-CBN. The group had a live video streaming with Atty. Philip Sawali, Chief of Staff of imprisoned Senator Leila De Lima.( Photo: Ago Pedalizo Facebook)

(Editor’s note: As President Rodrigo Duterte moves closer in his attempt to close one of his harshest critics – ABS-CBN, the country’s largest media conglomerate, we reprint an article we wrote in 1983 about Marcos and the media. It is a grim reminder of how far dictators will go to silence its critics.)
