Fort St. John celebrates FilCan Week

June 4th to 12th has been proclaimed North Peace FilCan week in Ft. St. John and the North Peace Filipino Canadian Association had various events celebrating the week.
To embrace Filipino culture festivities include sharing their love for music with a certain group in the community.
“A group of us will be singing and we have set already a schedule to the Lutheran Senior’s Home Care, June 7th, . And we will just share our talents of some of us who can sing and who can play instruments,” says North Peace Filipino Canadian Association Secretary Lorna Nyffeler.
Members will be donating Philippine children’s books to the city’s public library and a showing of a free Filipino-based movie at the Community Bridge building.
To wrap up the week, the association is hosting their Variety Show at the Lido Theatre on Sunday, June 12 to celebrate Filipino Independence Day.
“We are proud to share what we have- culture, food, especially food and we always look forward to this celebration and also July 1 and the World Fair,” says Nyffeler.
