Amid a decreasing unemployment trend, there’s additional good news for British Columbia residents.

The Philippines’ largest fast-food chain brand announced that it is hiring workers for service crew, stockman, dishwasher and driver positions at $15.75 per hour for its upcoming Granville location.

This job hiring announcement came as Dished Vancouver reported that Jollibee’s first BC location at 833 Granville Street looked like it’s getting closer to opening.

The exterior finish and signature Jollibee sign and a poster stating “Your Jolly Place Is On Its Way” are also in place, it revealed.

Dished Vancouver first reported the plan to set up a new downtown restaurant in the spring of 2020.

Since then, it also said that three additional upcoming locations in BC are also going to open soon, including one at Strawberry Hill Shopping Centre complex and in 9900 King George in Surrey.

Jollibee, which has 270 international branches, is operating across Canada but has yet to open one in BC. The pandemic was seen as a factor in the delay of the opening of the three locations.

In 2019, the company announced plans to open 250 stores across North America by 2023.

Since that announcement, Jollibee has opened several new locations in Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, and parts of Ontario as well, Dished Vancouver also reported.

Jollibee operates a network of more than 1,400 stores in the Philippines.

It enjoys the lion’s share of the local market that is more than all the other multinational fastfood brands in the Philippines combined.

It offers affordable food products that includes the famous Chickenjoy, Yumburger and Filipino-style Jolly Spaghetti, among others.

Jollibee has embarked on an aggressive international expansion plan in the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Macau, Brunei, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Italy, and in the United Kingdom.

According to its website, the financial requirement to open a franchise, depending on the final store size and facilities, ranges from P35 million to P55 million (CAD$864,000 to CAD$1.358 million).

Jollibee’s common stock is listed and traded on the Philippine Stock Exchange.

It is owned by Tony Tan Caktiong and his family, which ranks as 1299th richest in the world, according to forbes.com.

They have a current net worth of US$2.9 billion.
