Tulongan natin ang Igne sisters

By Ted Alcuitas

A Winnipeg mother is asking for support to send her two champion daughters to Dublin, Ireland as part of the Canadian National Team at the WKC World Karate and Kickboxing Championships in Dublin, Ireland on October 27 to November 2, 2018.

Lee Angela Igne, Grade 11 at the Maples Collegiate and Lourdes Lynn Igne  in Grade 7 at the Leila North School represented Manitoba last May and finished in the Top 4 earning them the right to represent the country.

Lee Angela finished 2nd place in point sparring, 3rd place in Traditional Hand Forms and 2nd place for Creative Weapon and she will be competing at the World in all 3 events.

Lynn finished 3rd place in point sparring and 2nd place for Creative Weapon Forms.

Their coach and instructor is mother Kelly Legaspi, herself a 4th-degree Black Belt in Karate. With husband Red, they opened the Winnipeg Sikaran Arnis Academy in 2004.

She started a crowdfunding appeal with Go Fund Me last month to raise $4,500. To date, the appeal has raised $520 and they have to leave in two weeks time on October 27.

According to the crowdfunding information, the family have funds for their plane tickets and registration. They still ends for the accommodations and other expenses.

Their is no public funding for this kind of sport tournament.

“As a coach and one of their instructors, I am very proud of them, they worked so hard this summer and never missed a training day and even kept on practicing at home.

As a mom, I really don’t want to let them down. But I am running out of fundraising ideas that is why I thought of asking the school/students/students’ parents and teachers. Any amount raised will really go a long way.

Both are so committed to their huge obligation and responsibility represent Canada with the best of their abilities. They know that we are not going to Ireland for a vacation especially on a very tight and thin budget.’

If in case you are not comfortable donating online, we set-up Lee Angela’s account to accept e-transfers through wsaa2004@gmail.com

We will appreciate any assistance that you can extend for The Igne Sisters, Lee Angela and Lourdes Lynn.

Thank you very much for being a part of my daugters’ journey! #IrelandGoals #youngmartialartsathletes”
