Vancouver author Chris C.E. Gatchalian will be participating in two literary festivals in Vancouver and Winnipeg.

The author of Double Melancholy is a panelist at Vancouver’s Liter Asian Festival on September 27 and 28.

Friday Sept 27

Location: Chinatown House (188 E Pender Street, Vancouver BC, V6A 1T3)

6.00-9.00 PM: Panel presentation “The Writing of Asian Canadian” featuring LiterASIAN authors C.E. Gatchalian, Philip Huynh, Sally Ito, Fred Wah, May Q. Wong, Rita Wong – followed by reception catered by Ca Phe Vietnamese Coffee House + cake cutting

Saturday Sept 28
Location: Sun Wah Centre – third floor (268 Keefer Street, Vancouver BC, V6A 1X5)

11.00 AM-12.00 PM: “Feeling the First Vague Stirrings” with C.E. Gatchalian 

12.30-1.30 PM: “Writing From Scratch” with Philip Huynh 

2.00-3.00 PM: “Events and Epiphanies: Writing Your Personal Myth” with Sally Ito  

3.30-4.30 PM: “Writing By Remembering Our Multicultural Pasts” with May Q. Wong

5.00-6.00 PM: Closing event booktalk “Talking beholden: a poem” with Rita Wong

On September 29, he will be in Winnipeg to speak at THIN AIR – Winnipeg International Writers Festival, one of Canada’s premier literary festivals.

Admission: $35

How do you write about a community you are not a part of or about an experience you haven’t gone through? C.E. Gatchalian will lead a workshop on these questions with an in-depth discussion as well as a creative exercise that will embody the often conflicting dynamics involved with writing about others.

In the afternoon Gatchalian is doing a reading and panel at Whodunit? Bookstore (163 Lilac Street).
