Manitoba elections
Jon Reyes has been elected in St.Norbert , the first Filipino to win under the Progressive Conservative Party which is expected to finish with a majority, ending the NDP’s 17-year rule.
Flor Marcelino, the incumbent NDP is leading in her riding of Logan while brother-in-law NDP Ted Marcelino is leading in a close fight with kababayan Aida Champagne of the Liberals.
Reyes will now join his two kababayans, Flor Marcelino and Ted Marcelino, making it the largest Filipino MLAs in the province’s history.
Manitoba made political history when it first elected the late Conrad Santos as an NDP MLA in 1988.
This is the first political fight for the second-generation Reyes, a former Navy officer and now an entrepreneur who runs a UPS store franchise in the North End.
The father of two is an active community advocate founding the Manitoba Filipino Business Council.
A graduate of Sisler High School, Reyes is an avid sports enthusiast who officiates university football and CFL games in his spare time.
