About the Book
The book documents Gu Xiong’s exhibition of the same name at Centre A and Canton-sardine – a major milestone in both the artist’s repertoire and Canadian art. In unearthing archival images, some of which have not been seen for over 100 years, the work brings significant chapters of Canada’s Chinese diasporic history to light. Photographs, archival images and poetry include explorations of the dark history of D’Arcy Island (B.C.) as a leper colony for Chinese immigrants.
The book is edited by Gu Xiong and April Liu, with additional contributions by Gu Xiong, April Liu, Chris Lee, Xiaoping Li, Xiaoyan Yang, Steven Dragonn, and Henry Heng Lu.
The book is co-published by Centre A and Canton-sardine.
