“It’s very hard to accept that the only box we are waiting for now would contain her remains,” says the son of Lucia Velasco who died last Tuesday (March 8, 2016) in a car-pedestrian accident in east Vancouver.

The 51-year old Velasco was crossing 41st and Kerr at 9:30 in the evening after coming home from work.

Friends have started a Go Fund Me ‘abuloy’ to help raise funds for her family in the Philippines and bring her body home.

Donors can go the Go Fund Me website at  (https://www.gofundme.com/uytexgt8 ).

The native of Baguio City came to Canada three years ago to work as a Live-in caregiver and was just waiting for her permanent residency approval to sponsor her husband and a son.

“She wanted to come home and see us but she was putting it on hold until her sponsorship is finalized and she can come pick them up. Just recently, she told us she’ll be sending a box for us and to wait for it,” according to a post in the Go Fund Me website (https://www.gofundme.com/uytexgt8).

“Things were starting to look up for her, for our family. She was just waiting for her permanent residency this year. Her dream of bringing my father and brother to Canada were on the tip of her fingers. It’s very hard to accept that the only box we are waiting for now would contain her remains. In a blink of an eye, our mother, our best friend and confidant, our provider, the glue that binds us together, our angel, was called back to heaven.”

Vancouver Police said Velasco was hit by two cars and was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers remained at the scene.

  1. Should the insurance of the vehicles pay for the lost of life? Somebody have to go after the insurance or the drivers themselves (there were two vehicles involved)!

God bless the family and our prayers are with you. I would ask all my friends to give. We gave and hoe you will to.

  3. My Sincere Condolences to her family… It is so sad to hear this and heartbreaking to know that her genuine effort in bringing her family together to a foreign land to join her has gone in vain . I join you in praying for the Lord to grant her eternal rest and give her family courage and endurance to fulfill what their mom started and planned for them . My Condolences….

  4. May she rest in peace . I hope that the government will help her and her family back home
I was a victim of hit and run last june 25,2015 here in montreal and at that time , i didnt get my pr card. In Montreal , it’s a no fault insurance so the saaq will covered but only if you are a pr card holder so i nees to wait for my card till i was compensated. I’m still lucky i’m alive although i had screws in my ankle. Im with my children and grand daughter now.i canr still find the driver and the case waa closed due to lack of witnesses and evidence

  5. Have any body from the community called the Philippine Consulate already. Since she is still a citizen of the Philippines she is entitled help from the government to repatriate her body back to the Philippines.

  8. But liability insurances on both vehicles involved should pay for the loss of life and all associated costs. The victim somehow has some life insurance too, right?

  9. I hope the immigration will still grant the family to come in Canada as what she wants. May you rest in peace. God Bless your soul.
