Jollibee opens in Winnipeg

Jollibee to open in Winnipeg

Filipino fast-food giant Jollibee is set to open its first restaurant in Winnipeg.

Dubbed the McDonalds of the Philippines, the chain’s opening was
‘leaked’, according to media online site Access Winnipeg.

It will be located at 1400 St. James Street by McDonalds and Starbucks.

Rumours of Jollibee opening in Canada circulated in early February this year when another Philippine grocery giant, Seafood, announced it was opening its first store in Mississauga, Ontario.

While there is yet to be an official announcement from Jollibee, the company’s CFO said in an interview last March that they could soon be opening its first Canadian location and they hoped to be in Canada within the year.

There are 662,605 Canadians with ethnic origins in the Philippines. Winnipeg has the third largest Filipino community in Canada by total population, and the largest by percentage (8.7%).
