Grade 12, French Immersion

Hugh McRoberts Secondary School, Richmond, B.C.

Chiarra was accepted at SFU, Western and Langara. She’s also thinking of possibly studying in the U.S. according to her mom, Atty. Melissa Remulla-Briones, who herself became a lawyer this year.

Khristien Angelo Juatco

Grade 12, Seaquam Secondary, Delta, B.C.

“Jello” as he’s known to many, is the 18 year old son of Janice Lozano and Roque Juatco Jr. He spent his elementary years attending St. Bernadette School, where he earned an athletic Scholarship and later continued his education at Holy Cross Secondary.

Throughout his schooling he has garnered several awards, among them: Provincial Champions 2015. (1st yr Bantam-Junior) -Starbowl Champions 2016 (1st yr Bantam-Junior) -ABC Border Bowl Champions 2016 (1st yr Bantam-Junior)  (1st yr Bantam-Junior) -VMFL Champions 2016 (2nd yr Bantam-Senior) -Coach’s Choice Award 2016: BC vs Alberta All Star Youth Sports.He was the only  Grade 11 named All Star in a Grade 11 & 12 Team for 2017 BCSSF Western League AAA Varsity Divisional All-Stars and received a special award with the Seaquam Seahawks on his Junior Year (Grade 11) Dennis Vosper Award.  Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Education,University of Manitoba. Grace will proceed to a  Master’s Degree in Education, according to her Lolo Vic Pagtakhan.

Isabella has  been accepted to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Engineering joint program of University of Northern British Columbia (where she’ll spend the first 2 years ) and University of British Columbia for 3rd and 4th years.

Trinity and Isabella are the daughters of Rem and Rochelle Nacario.

 

Amber Heckelman (Provided)

PhD in Integrated Studies in Land & Food Systems

University of British Columbia

Amber is a Bullitt Environmental FellowPublic Scholar, and Liu Scholar.  She is also one of the Co-Coordinators for UBC’s Philippine Studies Series.

Her thesis: A SOCIOECOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF SMALLHOLDER FARMING SYSTEMS IN THE PHILIPPINES: IDENTIFYING MULTI-SCALAR PATHWAYS AND BARRIERS TO RESILIENCE.

Amber finished her MA and MS at the  Washington State University, 2012  and  B.A. at  the University of California-Irvine in  2002.

Michelle Francis Silongan (LinkedIn)

Lawyer, British Columbia, Called to the Bar, January 30, 2019

Associate Lawyer,  ST Law, Surrey, B. C.

Michelle finished her Bachelor of Laws with honours (LL.B)  from the Queen Mary, University of London , 2015 and completed her M.A. in Public Policy (MPP) at the Simon Fraser University in 2011 and Bachelor of Arts at the University of British Columbia in 2009. She was a  former legislative assistant to MP Kennedy Stewart, Burnaby Douglas. Kennedy is now City Mayor of Vancouver.

According to her LinkedIn page, she has”experience in criminal defence, civil litigation, family, personal injury, and immigration law and actively engages with organizing work within the legal community, with an interest in aligning previous policy training and a political background in law reform to advance movement in building capacity and access to justice issues.
Frequently provides legal support to activists engaged in land defence and other social justice causes, including those facing criminal charges domestically and abroad.”

Liam, age 7, plays soccer and goes to French Immersion at Ecole Tuxedo Park , Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is the eldest son of David and Abigail (Bello) Jervis.

    Tito Ted, hello. Just a comment on your latest post: Congratulations to the Class of 2019! It seems that Ron Darvin was not included in the list. He graduated last April, a post-doc at SFU and will be joining The Chinese University in Hong Kong this August…
