23 candidates run in 161 municipalities

A record 23 Filipino Canadian candidates are running in next month’s municipal elections on October 17, 2026, the largest group of candidates in the province’s history. A majority – thirteen candidates are women.
From as far north as Dawson Creek and Ft. St. John’s to the urban centres of Vancouver , Surrey and North Vancouver, 13 are running for council seats and 10 are running for school board. Of the 13, three are re-electionists – Maita Santiago of Burnaby, running for a second term and Edwin Empinado of Kitimat for a fifth term and Gregg Apolonio of DawsonCreek for a second term.For school board, Rod Belleza of richmond is rhe only re-electionist.
