Three Pinays fail in election bid in Ontario and Manitoba

Following the loss of Narima Dela Cruz in Surrey, B.C.’s city council election last week, three other women candidates failed in their bid to get elected.
Marlene Mogado, a three -term school trustee for York Catholic School board failed to get re-elected in Toronto’s October 22 election.
Paulina Corpuz who run for Scarborough’s Southwest also lost in her first attempt at electoral politics.
In Winnipeg, Manitoba, Kelly Legaspi failed to get elected as school trustee for Seven Oaks in her first foray into politics.
Other Filipino candidates – Rey Sangalang in Winnipeg for school trustee and Randy Bucao for Scarborough Centre council all lost their bid.
Only three Filipinos were successful in this year’s municipal elections, all are re-electionists.
Edwin Empinado was re-elected for a third term in the City of Kitimat council.
Jocelyn Curteanu was reelected for a third term in Whitehorse and Rommel Silverio for a second term in Yellowknife.
