A noise barrage from make-shift container drums greeted sky train commuters Tuesday (Sept. 24)as striking workers at Hyatt Regency demonstrated infront of the downtown hotel near the Burrard Street Skytrain station.

The workers, members of Unite Here Local 40,  have been without a contract for 14 months and are demanding stable full time jobs, a livable wage, decent retirement, safe workload and a working environment free of sexual harassment.

Workers from three other hotels – The Pinnacle, Westin Bayshore and Hotel Georgia are all on strike.

A substantial number of these workers are Filipinos.
