Community members organize to keep cultural assets in the Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood
The Joyce Street Action Network is organizing a second town hall meeting on Tuesday, May 31 at for an in-person discussion to reimagine Joyce St. neighbourhood in east Vancouver.
The network which supports the retention of cultural food assets and slowing gentrification in the area around the Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood. Joyce St. Skytrain station seeks to engage residents and community members in reimagining Joyce St.
The network is a group of community members and organizations who are working toward reimagining the Joyce-Collingwood neighbourhood as a space where cultural foods, community, and cultural transmission continues well into the future. The coalition began working to support the six Pilipinx and Korean businesses at 5163-5187 Joyce St facing displacement by a developer proposal to build a 32-storey condominium tower on the site in 2021. The network includes organizations such as Renfrew Collingwood Food Justice, Vancouver Tenants Union, Sliced Mango Collective, and National Pilipino Canadian Cultural Centre.
