Provincial politics: Liberals nominate lawyer Paul Saguil for Willowdale

Ontario

Dedicated community advocate

The Ontario Liberal Party (OLP) has nominated Paul Saguil for the Willowdale riding for the next provincial election scheduled for June 2022.

Saguil is Deputy Head of Sanctions Compliance and Anti-Corruption at Toronto Dominion Bank. He is an award-winning lawyer who has defended equality and human rights before the Supreme Court of Canada.

“Paul is a strong leader for his community, and has spent his entire career fighting for people and ensuring their voices are heard,” said OLP Leader, Steven Del Duca. “Paul will be a fantastic representative for his community, and I am very happy to have him on our team.”

Saguil is a dedicated community advocate and sits on a number of boards and advisory groups. He is a passionate champion for access to justice, financial inclusion, and education as a pathway to success for everyone.

“My career and community volunteerism has been dedicated to fighting for inclusion and advocating for those whose voices are not always present or heard in places of power,” said Saguil. “I believe we have an incredible opportunity to bring strong leadership and integrity back to public office and I’m looking forward to fighting with the Ontario Liberal Party for a safer, healthier, and brighter future for our province!”

In the first major election of the year, Premier Doug Ford will face challengers, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath and new Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca.

While Manitoba has two sitting Filippo-Canadian members of the Legislative Assembly and British Columbia has one, no Filipino has ever been elected in Ontario.
