Drunk driving suspected in death of grandmother

“Tireless” and “mabait” says friends who knew Agulay who died when the car she was travelling with husband Leonilo was hit head-on by an allegedly drunk driver just before midnight yesterday (March 2).
Agulay was picking up her husband from work when the accident happened at Low Level Road, west of the Neptune Cargill Overpass in North Vancouver.
Friends and acquaintances describe her as a loving mother and Ate and Tita to family. Agulay worked as an educator in Early Childhood education.
According to reports, police believe alcohol was a factor in the accident but refused to give further details as the investigation is still ongoing.
Marcelina was taken to the Lions Gate Hospital in the North Shore but died on arrival, police say. Leonilo was taken to the Vancouver General Hospital (VGH)where he remains in critical condition.
Police say the driver of the Audi which struck the Agulays is now being investigated for dangerous driving and refusal to provide a breath sample. He was taken to Lions Gate Hospital with non-life threatening injuries according to police.
Marcelina (Ate LIna) has a son and two grandchildren according to a GoFundMe campaign which was set up as soon as news of the accident broke.

Marcelina was an active organizer for the NDP and was involved in the 2017 campaign.

She was fearless,” tweeted Bowinn Ma, the NDP MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale and Minister of State for Infrastructure.
