Roel Ocampo died yesterday evening (May 18) according to a post by his friend Joel Yana who started a GoFundMe campaign soon after the diagnosis of cancer.

According to Joel, it was Roel’s wife Cris, who informed him of the death of the Calgarian who is remembered by friends as a ” great person, wonderful human being and deserves nothing but the best. He was always smiling and a genuinely great person❤️ Our jiujitsu family will help take care of his family #onefamily.”

The 37-year old worked at Tim Horton’s but was laid-off due to the pandemic. He has two young daughters Ashley and Zoe. He has no other family in Calgary.
Funeral arrangements is on-going as of this posting.

The GoFundMe campaign remains open so that people can still help to cover funeral expenses, Yana says.

“5/19/2020 7 am MST update: It is with a heavy heart that I let you know our friend Roel passed away on the evening of Monday May 18, 2020. I was advised of his passing by Roel’s wife Cris.

The fundraiser remains open so that we can focus on continuing to raise funds to cover funeral expenses and ongoing costs for Cris and her daughters Ashley and Zoe. Further updates will be made as funeral arrangements progress.

Please keep Roel and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.”

Tulungan natin si Roel!
