Immigrant’s daughter enters politics

Born from immigrant parents – her mother is from Ilocos Sur and her father from Korea, Nam worked in here parent’s grocery store and later in a restaurant to help pay for her schooling. She was the first of her generation to go to law school.

Nam interned at the Ateneo Human Rights Center in Manila and  updated a judicial training manual on gender discrimination for the Philippine judiciary. She also helped develop a report for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on the rights of migrant workers.

She was the recipient of the 2011 McGill Alumni Association’s (MAA) James G. Wright award.

 

Mae was a  panelist at the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers Conference in Toronto in June. She is seen here with Filipinx lawyers, Fay Faraday (left) and Gail L. Gatchalian, Q.C. who spoke on the topic of litigating and responding to cases involving sexual harassment and sexual assault in the workplace.(Facebook)
