Robredo responds to Sarah Duterte withdrawal
By Charmaine Janis Rodriguez
PRESIDENTIAL candidate Leni Robredo is unfazed and believes the Duterte siblings’ withdrawal of their certificates of candidacy (COCs) as mayor and vice mayor of Davao City is good as it makes the political lines clearer as the November 15-deadline for the substitution of candidates draws near.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio had withdrawn her COC as mayor and asked her brother Sebastian to be her substitute. Earlier, Sebastian had withdrawn as candidate for vice mayor.
The administration camp has been keeping its followers in suspense with its final tandem for the country’s two topmost posts for the May 2022 elections, hinting that changes will still happen before November 15. Carpio has frequently claimed she will not run for a national post, a move similar to her father’s denial to run for president in the 2016 elections. Duterte’s allies, Bongbong Marcos and Senator Bato dela Rosa have filed COCs for president while Senator Bong Go is seeking the vice presidential post.
“As far as our ticket is concerned, I don’t think it will affect us at all. If at all, when that happens, the lines will be clearer,” Robredo told the media during an online forum with the Rotary Club of Makati on Tuesday, November 9.
She earlier also said that Carpio’s candidacy is a non-issue to her.
Robredo also reminded her supporters again that in discussing politics whether on social media or personally, it is important to be calm and gentle and avoid conflicts with people who do share their beliefs.
“Ang ating mensahe: Ang pink ay hindi lamang kulay. Ang pink ay uri ng pamumuhay. Maging maingat sa pananalita. Magsabi lagi ng totoo. Ipagtanggol ang katotohanan. Huwag magsalita ng masakit sa kapwa,” she stressed.
(Our message: Pink is not just a color. It is a way of life. Be careful in your words, always speak the truth. Defend the truth. Do not say anything that would hurt your fellow Filipino.)
