Birthday bash for LENI ROBREDO, tomorrow, Sunday (April 24)
Charmaine Janis Rodriguez
To promote Presidential candidate Leni Robredo’s platform of government, her supporters organized Kalikasan, Klima, Kalusugan on Sunday, April 24 in Sunrise Park, Vancouver in time for her birthday celebration.
Rain or shine, the event will start at 12:30 p.m. and will include a short “Walk for Leni.” As part of the health advocacy, a Zumba activity and a tai-chi session with Dr. Danny Salcedo will follow. The event, which follows the international celebration of Earth Day, will also promote environmental protection through group singing, said Treenee Lopez of Global Pinoy Diaspora Canada.
“We are inviting communities to join us as we celebrate Leni’s birthday. We hope more people will be able to join this,” she said. The group is part of a bigger community of supporters of Robredo and her running mate, Senator Kiko Pangilinan, who organized the Canada-wide Caravan of Hope in November 2021 and the Musikahan ATBP (Variety Show) Alay sa Bagong Pag-asa which was an online concert to campaign for the tandem. Tropang Canada is a community-based group composed of volunteers and concerned citizens of Filipino-Canadian descent who support the ideals of democracy, good governance, sovereignty and a corruption-free government as well as the end of dynasties, which are the platform of the Leni-Kiko team.
Since it is also Robredo’s birthday celebration, the event will include short messages for her and a Filipino-style potluck to promote the spirit of camaraderie through the sharing of Filipino dishes, Lopez said. In time for the observance of Filipino Restaurant Month across Canada, Lopez said participants are encouraged to buy food from Filipino restaurants, take photos of the dishes and post them on social media to support local businesses in the Vancouver area. Meanwhile, Lopez thanked everyone who supported Musikahan ATBP and announced that it’s still open to accept donations and subscriptions to help raise funds for Leni-Kiko’s campaign activities in Canada or through chosen charities in the Philippines. For a subscription of $10, viewers can watch the virtual concert that features Filipino celebrities Jim Paredes of the APO Hiking Society and Bituin Escalante, among others. The 2-hour show which was broadcast earlier this month will be available to ticket buyers at the link .
