Filipino Canadian Lawyers Network meets in Vancouver June 3

To celebrate Filipino Heritage Month, the Filipino Canadian Lawyers Network – Reseau des avocats philippino canadiens (FCLN-RAPC) is meeting Vancouver lawyers on Saturday, June 3, 2023. The network represent Filipino-Canadian lawyers nationally. The event is in person for those who are in Vancouver and virtual for those who are not starting at 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. at 300-225 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C..

The program will feature a keynote speech by Justice Aubrey Danielle Hilliard, a Filipino Canadian judge of the Ontario Court of Justice assigned in Norfolk County-Simcoe, Ontario. Justice A.D. Hilliard was called to the bar in 2005 and was appointed Justice on December 26, 2018.  Prior to her appointment to the Ontario Court of Justice, Justice Hilliard was a partner with Yanch & Hilliard LLP since 2007, with a focus on family and criminal law. Justice Hilliard has served as a member of the criminal duty counsel panel, the family duty counsel panel, and the domestic violence advice panel.

After the keynote speech of Justice Hilliard, there will be a panel of Filipino Canadian lawyers from the BC Bar who will talk about their entry into law and address the importance of diversity and inclusion in the justice system.

Launched on June 1, 2021, FCLN is dedicated to “identifying and bringing awareness to legal issues, barriers and concerns affecting the Filipino-Canadian community and seeks to promote, support, develop, network and collaborate with Filipino-Canadian legal professionals (including lawyers, paralegals, law clerks) and seeks to encourage the Filipino-Canadian community to enter into legal careers by providing education, resources, mentorship, internship and other opportunities.”
